Is Priyanka Gandhi more popular or Rahul Gandhi? Priyanka, of course!

Priyanka Gandhi may not be involved in full fledged politics but it turns out that she is liked more than Rahul Gandhi, her brother and the General Secretary of Congress. She is admired by the people and they believe that she has all it takes to be a leader. The reasons why Priyanka is more liked than Rahul are:

Replica of Indira Gandhi:

Priyanka bears a striking resemblance to her grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The people in Rae Bareli and Amethi, including Congress members, may be fond of Sonia Gandhi and son Rahul but feel it is Priyanka who has the determination and charisma of her late grandmother Indira Gandhi and believe she is more capable of bringing about a sea change in the country’s politics.

"We like Priyanka Gandhi more than Rahul. When she gets down from her car and walks towards the people, you feel Indira Gandhi-- in her 'Ma Durga' avatar - is standing in front of you,” said Ghanshyam Pathak to PTI. "She is the real inheritor of her grandmother and her father Rajiv Gandhi's legacy. She should definitely enter politics,” feels Pathak, a local shopkeeper who has been associated with the Congress for decades. Though the voters of the two ‘VIP constituencies’ are loyal supporters of the first family of Congress, they feel Priyanka is the most charming and able in the Nehru-Gandhi clan today.

Connects with the poor: People feel her connection with the poor folk and women is very endearing. She has a manner that allows her to mingle comfortably with the crowds. In fact, some of the Congress supporters feel if not from Amethi or Rai Bareli, she can contest from any other constituency but it is time she enter politics. Pathak said “She can contest from her in-laws place- Moradabad or any constituency in that region. Once she enters politics, Samajwadi Party and BSP will be decimated.”

Priyanka has been campaigning for her brother Rahul who is canvassing in various parts of UP and other poll-bound states. Priyanka had then said that for the moment she was confining herself to these two seats but would campaign in other parts too if Rahul wanted her to. Congress General Secretary Digivijay Singh said that Priyanka is a part of the party's campaign and it is up to her and the party to decide which constituencies she would visit.

Patient Listener: In her trips to Rae Bareli and Amethi, Priyanka was usually more forthcoming than Sonia and Rahul and stopped to chat with the people. Ram Pratap Mishra, a clerk working in Amethi said "Have you noticed that she always wears a saree when she visits the constituency? She has a patient ear when people recount their woes," as quoted by rediff News.

The recent war of words between Rahul and hothead BJP leader Uma Bharti was also a point of discussion in Rae Bareli, with some feeling Priyanka would have given a more befitting reply to the Hindutva leader.

Talks to the point: Priyanka is known to talk her mind out and at the same time she ensures that unnecessary controversies are at bay. While Rahul had brought up the issue of Bharti being an outsider in UP as she originally is from Madhya Pradesh, thus, prompting the latter to say that Sonia is from Italy but contests from Rae Bareli. Even those who were opposed to the Congress admit that Priyanka would be a more formidable opponent than Rahul. Some leaders, though discrete in their uttering, also felt that Priyanka is more ‘to-the-point’ and also possesses the charm that would bring more youth and women under the Congress banner.

Woman Icon: Priyanka comes with a clean slate unlike other politicians. She is also known as a 'seasonal variation' and 'reluctant bride'. She is considered as a fashion icon or a socialite by some but when she goes to there on her campaigns; she appears wrapped casually in a cotton sarees, reminding one of her grandmother. The power packed woman has a charismatic personality and is considered the woman icon.
