Bollywood full of action-thrillers in 2012


Mumbai: After 'Bodyguard' and Singham' ruled the roost in 2011, the trend of action-thriller films will continue in the new year with films like 'Players' and 'Agneepath' coming up.

2012 will also see the release of 'Tezz', 'Agent Vinod', 'Bol Bachchan', 'Rowdy Rathore' dabbling in the genre of action, while a few comedies are also in the pipeline.

Kareena Kapoor, with four releases - 'Agent Vinod' with beau Saif Ali Khan, 'Taalash' with Aamir Khan, 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu' with Imran Khan and Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Heroine' - seems all set to rule the box office this year too.

Eid is considered a lucky time for Salman Khan as his previous three films 'Wanted' (2009), 'Dabangg' (2010) and 'Bodyguard' (2011) managed to cash in on the festival hype and rake in the moolah at the box office. His this year's Eid release is Aditya Chopra's 'Ek Tha Tiger' with Katrina Kaif.

"The year looks interesting as a lot of big films are releasing, but it's all a wait and watch situation, as many much-awaited films last year disappointed terribly," film critic and cine historian Rajiv Vijayakar told PTI.

2012 opens with Abbas-Mustan's action-thriller 'Players' releasing on January 6. It is an official remake of the Hollywood crime thriller 'The Italian Job' and stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Sonam Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

The next January release will be Naseeruddin Shah, Atul Kulkarni, Kay Kay Menon starrer comic cop drama 'Chaalis Chaurasi'.

Two major releases are lined up for January 26 — Karan Johar's remake of the 1990 cult film 'Agneepath', which has Hrithik reprising Amitabh Bachchan's iconic role of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan. It also stars Priyanka Chopra, Rishi Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt.

The other is Dibakar Banerjee's much-awaited political thriller 'Shanghai' starring Emraan Hashmi and Abhay Deol.

February looks like the month of love with Karan Johar's home production rom-com 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu' starring Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan, real-life couple Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza starrer 'Tere Naal Love Hogaya' and R Madhavan-Bipasha Basu starrer 'Jodi Breakers' releasing.

Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor's 'Agent Vinod' is likely to release in March.

After 'The Dirty Picture', Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi will be seen again on the silver screen in Sujoy Ghosh's thriller 'Kahaani' that releases on March 9.

The month of April will be of sequels — Sajid Khan's 'Housefull 2', Ekta Kapoor's 'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum' and Mahesh Bhatt's 'Jannat 2'. Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 'Ferrai Ki Sawaari' also releases in April.

Karisma Kapoor will maker her comeback on silver screen with Vikram Bhatt's 'Dangerous Ishq', which releases in June. The film is a thriller, also starring Rajneesh Duggal and Jimmy Shergill.

The month will also see Aamir Khan's 'Taalash', a psychological thriller, starring Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee.

Akshay Kumar returns as the action hero with 'Rowdy Rathore', an action film, directed by Prabhu Deva. The film, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is a remake of the Telugu film 'Vikramarkudu'.

In July, Rohit Shetty will be seen tickling the funny bone with 'Bol Bachchan', an action-comedy starring Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Asin and Prachi Desai.

Two of Akshay's films - 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2' and 'Joker', will keep viewers in August busy, and so will Salman Khan's 'Ek Tha Tiger', produced by Aditya Chopra.

Abbas-Mustan are all set for another action-thriller 'Race 2' releasing in November. Akshay Kumar will make his comeback as the 'Khiladi' of Bollywood with 'Khiladi 786', an action film releasing in the same month.

The year might end with a bang as the sequel to blockbuster 'Dabangg' has been kept as a December release.

Other films expected to hit cinema houses in 2012 include Karan Johar's 'Student of the Year', Hrithik Roshan's 'Krrish 3' and Anurag Basu's 'Barfee'.
